TEST QUESTIONS

WHEN WILL I BE READY?

You will know when you are ready because you'll no longer need help from your instructor.  An experienced driving instructor knows what it takes to pass the driving test, they should be able to suggest it will take X number of hours from the point you are at.

WILL I BE ABLE TO USE YOUR CAR OR IS IT A DIFFERENT ONE?

The driving test will be in the car you have learned in.  Unless you choose otherwise or the car you have learned in breaks down.  We will try our best to provide an alternative car if ours breaks down.  Remember, you are learning to drive.  You will drive many cars in your lifetime, the car is not important, your skills as a driver are.  If you do the test in your car, you can.  Remember to display L Plates and bring an additional rear view mirror for the examiner.

HOW MANY LESSONS WILL I NEED?

There's always going to be one who says they did it all in 5 hours, but that's far from the average.  The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) say it takes most people 45 hours of lessons to learn how to drive, plus 22 hours of practising.  So you see, some find it easier than others.  Talk to your instructor, they'll give you an idea after a few lessons.

HOW AND WHEN DO I BOOK MY TEST?  CAN I CANCEL/CHANGE IT?

Theory - You don't have to wait for you instructor to book it.  We advise scoring 46 plus on the questions and over 50 on the hazard perception clips.  If you put the effort in you could pass your test without even taking a single driving lesson.  But it is easier if you have lessons alongside your theory practice.  A theory test pass lasts 2 years.  If you don't pass your test in that time you will have to re-sit your theory test.  Book it at https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test

Practical - Talk to your driving instructor, booking a driving test needs to be done in advance and your experienced driving instructor will have a great idea of when you are likely to be ready.  Book it at https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test

Cancelling or changing your test date

Theory - You must give 3 full working days notice or you will lose your test fee.  Change it at https://www.gov.uk/change-theory-test

Practical - You must give 3 full working days notice or you will loose your test fee.  Change it at https://www.gov.uk/change-driving-test

WHAT DO I TAKE TO MY DRIVING TEST?

You, a car, your photocard driving licence and your theory pass certificate.

CAN MY DRIVING INSTRUCTOR SIT IN ON MY TEST?

About half of our customers want our instructor to sit in the back.  A friendly face, a boost for confidence, an angel on your shoulder. We'll be sat behind you, we cannot talk to you during the test, we can't kick you in the back or cough or anything that the examiner may think we are helping you.

The other half don't.  Extra pressure, another pair of eyes watching your every move are some of the reasons.

It's up to you, it's your test, it's your choice.  Your instructor will be there at the end to listen to the debrief if you want that.

HOW LONG WILL MY TEST LAST

The aim is for a 40 minute test.  But it can take longer, it depends on the test route and levels of traffic and other issues.

WHEN DO I GET THE RESULT?

When your test ends the examiner will ask you to turn your engine off.  They will complete the paperwork and ask you if you want your instructor present for the result.  The result is then delivered straight away.

CAN I DRIVE STRAIGHT AWAY IF I PASS?

Yes.  Make sure you are insured and as a full licence holder.

WHAT IS A FAIL?

By now your instructor will have discussed what is a dangerous, serious or other driving fault.

1 Dangerous mistake or 1 Serious mistake and you will be unsuccessful this time.

Other driving faults are less serious, but if you get more than 15 faults or you get multiple faults for the same reason it will become serious and you will be unsuccessful this time.

IF I FAIL, WHEN CAN I RE-BOOK?

You can book it straightaway, but you cannot take the test for 10 clear working days.  You also have to pay again.  Book it at https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test

LESSON QUESTIONS

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY DRIVING INSTRUCTOR IS FULL QUALIFIED?

You will need to ask or you can identify them by a green badge in the car window.  An instructor with a pink badge is a trainee.

DO I NEED TO SHOW MY INSTRUCTOR MY DRIVING LICENCE PHOTOCARD AND DO I NEED IT FOR EVERY LESSON?

Your driving instructor only needs to see your licence on your first driving lesson.  They may also ask you to allow them to see the detail of your licence.  See https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.  This is up to date information and allows the instructor to check if you have any points (yes it's possible) or have been disqualified.

HOW MUCH ARE DRIVING LESSONS WITH SUPERDRIVER?

It depends on what you require and the duration of lesson.  Our prices and offers are availlable at https://superdriver.co.uk/prices.

CAN I HAVE MORE THAN 1 LESSON A WEEK?

Be clear when booking your lessons what you want.  If it is available, we would love to give you more time.  It is between you and your instructor.

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY DRIVING LESSONS?

In advance of your lesson.  If you are paying by cash pay on entering the training car.  If you are paying by bank transfer please pay in advance.  Bank transfers are preferred.

WHERE WILL MY INSTRUCTOR PICK ME UP FROM?

In advance you need to discuss pick up and drop off locations with your driving instructor.  It is normally from college, university, home or work.  Consider the times if you want your lessons at 5pm from our city centre.  You may spend a considerable amount of time stuck in traffic.

CAN I TAKE LESSONS IN MY OWN CAR?

We always recommend starting in your instructors training car.  It has dual controls to keep you safe and also gives both you and your instructor confidence that you can handle the car safely.  Sometimes it is cheaper to learn in your own car, ask you instructor.  Make sure your insurance allows this and make sure the car is road worthy.

DO I NEED TO PASS MY THEORY TEST BEFORE TAKING LESSONS?

No.  But it is possible.  With long waiting times for tests it is highly advised that you book your theory test sooner rather than later.  Book it at https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test
